Using an idiom to figuratively express how this unique set of characters have a better chance of solving their problems working together than alone, 'Two Heads Are Better Than One' reflects on the medical condition polycephaly and the cultural and social violations of the Victorian era 'freak show' industry.
Where the disabled or disfigured were once showcased as human curiosities and oddities, tall tales and physical embellishments were used to heighten abnormalities, revealed behind side show curtains. A time when people were bought and sold for their deformities, and most shockingly, some were continued to be put out on the road for exhibition, after death, by being embalmed.
The title 'Two Heads Are Better Than One' is a reflection on the positive change during the entrepreneurial Vaudeville circuit when side show acts broke out of the = circus tents to attain genuine celebrity status through the more sophisticated variety theatre, an institution notable for being more consistent with the 'Progressive Era's' interests in education and self-betterment.
